The AJA Io HD is a premium video capture and playback device, engineered to work seamlessly with Apple’s ProRes 422 codec via FireWire 800, enabling superior 10-bit HD editing on Mac systems. This portable solution is crafted for video professionals who require both flexibility and high-quality, full-raster HD video in their workflow.

The Io HD supports an extensive array of input and output options, including SD and HD-SDI, HDMI, component, composite, and S-video connections, making it compatible with a wide variety of professional equipment. For audio solutions, it delivers 8-channel embedded audio via SDI/HDMI, balanced analogue XLR connections, and RCA outputs for monitoring purposes. Moreover, it features LTC timecode and RS-422 machine control compatibility, facilitating precise synchronisation and command of connected devices during video capture or playback.

One of the most notable advantages of the Io HD is its hardware-based ProRes encoding. With the capacity to compress or decompress data internally, the device eases the load on the connected computer, enabling high-definition video to be transmitted over the relatively restricted bandwidth of FireWire 800. This feature makes the Io HD a formidable tool for on-the-go editing on both MacBook Pro and desktop setups, as it can manage up/down/cross conversions in real-time without needing additional hardware.

It should be mentioned that FireWire's bandwidth limitations may introduce a slight delay when using the Io HD alongside other devices, such as audio interfaces. The device came as part of the IT decommissioning project and was removed from working environment.
